Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW)
"Sometimes, moreover, if the place itself and the nature of the community permit, it will be appropriate to celebrate the Liturgy of the Word, including a Homily, with the children in a separate, but not too distant room. Then, before the Eucharistic Liturgy begins, the children are led to the place where the adults have meanwhile celbrated their own Liturgy of the Word."
Director of Masses with Children #17
Christ the King Parish offers Children's Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) to children in language that is meaningful to them by providing a discussion of the Scriptures geared to their age and developmental levels. CLOW occurs during the 9:15 AM Mass on most Sundays ~ September through May.
Children in Grades 1-3 are invited to listen to the Scriptures in a separate space and then return to join their families for the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Children are invited forward by the Priest, blessed and dismissed. The Presider uses music, activities, skits and various techniques to make Scripture exciting and alive! The children return to Mass following the Petitions. Some are chosen to carry the gifts and all assemble around the altar for the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
Volunteers are needed to Preside, Assist and Set-up. Presiders lead the Scripture readings and discussions. All materials are provided. Assistants accompany children throughout the session. Set-Up includes preparing the space. Commitment: One Sunday a month.
